    The First Year:
    Trips and Trials:
    Snow on Mt. St. Helens

Mt. St. Helens FSR25, third week in June 1999

It was the third week in June and we decided to try for Mt. St. Helens, east side run. This would be the second attempt; the first was aborted due to rain.

Down 167 to 7 to 12 .... east to Randall. It was on this stretch that I had my first Bambi scare.

Stop in Randall for fuel -- both for the bikes and the bodies. It's 80+ degrees (in June!). Riding up FSR25, the air gets cooler and cooler. Where snow banks are 15 feet on either side of the road (feeling like a snow cave), the air temps drop dramatically. And pleasantly.

Since FSR 99 is closed, we shoot all the way down to I-5 and make the loop home. Another 350 mile day.
