Subject: Brakes Saga
At the six arms on wed - michael bain told me he noticed at noon that
my brake lights seemed "on" too much. hmm. check rear/front -- they
turn on-off. wonder what was going on?
friday - michael and i go to Dixie's for lunch. first light. "Kathy,
your brake light's stuck on." Get to Dixie's. "OK, it's working now."
Call Cascade - will drop in first thing Saturday AM. Probably just a
Get to Cascade at 9 am and see my friend Todd from AT&T there with
his R1100RT. Flat tire en route to work. Yuck. His emergency is higher
on triage level. Plus he got there first. ;-)
Bout 9:40 - they pull my bike in. First problem: switch on brake
lever is bad. Replace.
Check rear brake - problem -- spindle frozen. When did this happen?
Bain did mention Friday that my brake seemed stiff ....
Pull fender, tire. Clean, sandpaper, etc. Get the news that I'm gonna
need to replace the wheel [not today] cause of internal braking wear.
"Will, how does this rear tire look to you?"
"Kathy, let's change it when you're here in 10 days for Level 2 service."
OK, I think, I'll call Ted/Sparky and order my tire.
Problem: spin rear wheel ... Wait! What's that bald spot?!? One
"flat" spot with cord showing. Sigh. Get new tire today [$145 before
mounting]. Sorry, Sparky.
Will contends the tire had a "skid" spot .. if I inflicted it, maybe
I did lock the wheel on Sunday? But it does seem like I would have
known I was doing that ....
Need oil change, which I was gonna do this AM - but I've been twidling
thumbs and watching Will work on the bike. "Go ahead and change the
oil today, too, please -- we just won't do it again next week."
So, I'm $350 lighter ... they finish [test ride, wash] about 1 pm.
Go get lunch. Still have to get the jeep towed [AAA - why do they
almost always take almost an hour from dispatch to pickup?] cause
the power steering went out and took the serpentine belt that runs
water pump et al. Not drivable. Sigh.
Two things going out "at once" [both brakes on motorcyle] ... sigh
... plus Vehicle madness [add Jeep's "burp"]. Good thing for Overtime, eh?
Hope y'all all had a wonderful time ... see ya at The Gather.
